Obituary of Sally Salme Hackman

Sally Salme Hackman, 88 of Cloquet died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 in her home. She was born December 10, 1913 in Brookston to Evert and Esther (Kempainen) Mattson. She grew up in Brookston and graduated from Alborn High School in 1932. She married Ernest Hackman on May 24, 1935 in Duluth. Together they owned and operated Hackman's Corner Store gas station and tavern in Brookston until 1950. They lived in California for a short time before moving to Jacobson where they farmed. In 1957 they moved to Cloquet. Sally worked in the office at Iron Range Propane from 1964 until retiring in 1971. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and serving coffee to her friends. Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie on March 3, 2001; sisters, Ina Bratt, Helen Tramontin and Helvi Christenson; brother, Toivo Mattson. She is survived by 12 nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, May 10, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. A time of fellowship and lunch followed in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
