Obituary of Crystal J. Johnson

Crystal "Cris" J. Johnson, 82 of Esko died Saturday, May 18, 2002 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. She was born March 18, 1920 in Federal Dam, Minn. to William and Almina (Irish) Nelson. She grew up and attended school in Federal Dam. She later moved to Duluth and on January 10, 1948 she married William Johnson in Cromwell. They made their home in Esko where Cris worked at the Cloquet Coop Store in Esko and later at the Minute Mart until retiring in 1974. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Carlton VFW Auxiliary and the Teamsters Local 346 Retiree's Club. She enjoyed taking bus trips with the Retiree's Club, her monthly lunch with her friends at St. Matthew's, making rag rugs and she especially enjoyed her cat, Sophie. Cris was preceded in death by her husband, William on July 3, 1999; sisters, Ora, Margaret and Oris; brothers, Myrl, Don, Douglas and Addison. She is survived by sons, Don (Carloyn) Francisco of Prospect Heights, Illinois and Wayne Francisco of Esko; daughters, Linda (Gordy) McLain of Fence, Wisc. and Sheri (Jim) Johnson of Mountain Iron; brother, Kenneth (Muriel) Cress of Phillips, Wisc.; sisters, Cella Carpenter and Vera Whitted both of Grand Rapids; sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson of Esko and Alice Johnson of Cloquet; grandchildren Nick Johnson, Jeff and John Francisco and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 until the 11:00 AM funeral service Tuesday, May 21, 2002 in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Esko. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet.
