Obituary of Vernon Merle Zacher

Vernon Merle Zacher, 73, Cloquet, died Wednesday, November 14, 2001 in Nopeming Nursing Home. He was born July 23, 1928 in Sawyer, the son of Mike and Margaret (Ugen) Zacher. He married Jean D. Christianson in 1949. He worked at Diamond Brands, Cloquet, for 33 years, retiring in 1983. After his retirement, Vernon did painting and building maintenance for Viking Manor Apartments. He was a life-long member of Blood Donors and a member of the Moose Lodge #1274 in Cloquet. Vernon enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking, camping with his family, mink ranching, horseback riding, playing blackjack at the casino, going to car auctions in Minneapolis and driving the cars back to Cloquet for Chuck's Wheels, and especially enjoyed having coffee with his friends at Hardees. Vernon will be fondly remembered by his family as a good, caring and loving father. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Zacher, Sr. in 1991. Vernon is survived by his daughter, Debra Fall; four sons, Vernon Jr., John, Mark (Betty) and Randy, all of Cloquet; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, two sisters, Beverly Savage and Mary Reimer, both of Duluth and a very special friend, Jim Gerard of Cloquet. Visitation was Sunday, November 18, 2001 from 2:00 until the 3:00 P.M. funeral service in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
