Obituary of Joel Dean Kamunen

Joel Dean Kamunen, 50 of Dillon, Colorado formerly of Cloquet died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 in his home. He was born May 2, 1952 in Cloquet to Eino and Irene (Caron) Kamunen. He graduated from Cloquet High School in 1970. Joel received his bachelor's degree from Bemidji State University. He worked in Cairo, Egypt for a short time before moving to Dillon, Colorado in 1982 where he was a waste water treatment operator at the Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort. Joel was an avid motorcyclist with a special interest in antique cycles. He loved to ski, hike, bicycle, spend time outdoors and tinker with his motorcycles and cars. He also enjoyed listening to all types of music. Joel will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his father, Eino and one brother, Jay Kamunen. Joel is survived by his mother, Irene Kamunen of Cloquet; sisters, Susan (Tom) Flynn and Lisa Kamunen both of Cloquet; his former wife, Sue Kamunen of Dillon; niece, Kris Kamunen and nephew, Grant Kamunen both of Cloquet; step nieces, Michele Flynn of Cloquet and Lisa Wise of California; great niece, Jennifer Fagre of Cloquet and his best buddy "Buster". The family will receive friends from 11 until the 12:00 Noon memorial service Saturday, May 18, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. A time of fellowship and lunch will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
