Obituary of Oliver Armus Siltanen

Oliver "Huck" Armus Siltanen, 83 of Cloquet died Sunday, May 19, 2002 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. He was born December 9, 1918 in Cloquet to Emil and Milta (Palsina) Siltanen. He graduated from Cloquet High School in 1936. Oliver worked at Northwest Paper Company from 1936 to 1941. He then joined the Army in March of 1941, where he was a Sergeant of Anti-Aircraft stationed in San Francisco, California. He moved to Texas in 1943 where he was a training instructor for the Army. He moved back to Cloquet in 1945. In 1952, he married Jeanette Graving Holmberg in St. Louis Park, Minn. Oliver continued to work at the Northwest Paper Company, which became Potlatch in 1963. At the time of his retirement in 1981, he was a Paper Manufacturing Supervisor. He was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time outdoors. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette in January 1998; his sister, Aili Siltanen, brother, Paul "Barney" Siltanen and a grandson, Dallas Alaspa. He is survived by his son, Craig (Dianne) Siltanen of Cloquet; step-daughters, Arlene Alaspa and Ardythe (Alden) Lindquist both of Cloquet; 10 grandchildren, Melissa, Nicholas and Chelsea Siltanen; Steve (Char) Lindquist, Tom (Kim) Lindquist, Terryl (Dale) Shanda, Wendy (Craig) Risdall, Curtis (Cathy) Alaspa, Rick Alaspa, Chad (Stacey) Alaspa; 10 great grandchildren, Kaylee Lindquist, Gaitz Shanda, Christine, Kyle and Megan Risdall, Trevor, Kelli, Laura, Elizabeth and Brandon Alaspa. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 22, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet. A time of fellowship and lunch followed in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
