Obituary of Bernard Leonard Nelson

Bernard "Ben" L. Nelson, 91, Cloquet, died Wednesday, December 19, 2001 in Cloquet Community Memorial Nursing Home. He was born May 15, 1910 in Hinckley, the son of Erick and Mathilda (Swan) Nelson. He married Bernice Burman on October 29, 1932 in Wilmar, MN. Ben was a farmer and also worked as a millworker for Conwed Corporation for 25 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet, taught Sunday school for many years, served on the Zion church board, was a member of the Zioneers and was a former member of First Lutheran Church in Hinckley. Ben will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man. He dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joanne Marie; 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Ben is survived his by wife of 69 years, Bernice, of Cloquet; 3 sons, Leonard of San Antonio, TX, Rev. Gerald (Kay) of Phoenix, AZ and Dean (Gerry) of Barnum; two daughters, Judy (Ken) Keppler and Suzanne Gamble, both of Houston; two foster daughters, Kim Nelson of Hastings and Bonnie (Tom) Terpstra of Houston; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held on Saturday, December 22, 2001. in Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Ave., Cloquet. Arrangements were entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
