George and I had a very close relationship way back in the 1970s. We eventually lost touch with each other, but I thought of him many times throughout the years. A couple years ago I started searching for him in order to reconnect and see how my old friend was doing. I hit several dead ends until I stopped at the old duplex on Wellington in Duluth, where I used to go visit him. A neighbor there gave me a tip that eventually helped me find George at New Perspectives. I visited him in September, talking through his window. I brought several mementos to show him from the time we spent together, but he did not remember who I was. Back when I visited George in the 1970s, he frequently asked me to make and bring him some cheeseburgers, which he loved! Many other times he asked me to bring him hot fudge sundaes, with extra hot fudge. I recently came across old diaries of mine in which I wrote about the day I met George, and about many other times we shared. Since I reconnected with George in September, I have sent him a few cards and letters. I was so looking forward to the eventual end of the coronavirus pandemic so I could actually sit next to him during a visit and show him old photos I have of him, along with other mementos. I had hoped maybe he would remember me when looking at these things--and if not, that they would at least just give him some pleasure in some way. In September when I showed him cards he had sent me, I told him how beautiful his handwriting always was. George was a precious part of my life, and I'm sorry I won't get the chance to see him again. My sympathy to the family.

Regarding the memories I shared of George, I would love it if a member of the family could call me and tell me more about George's life over the last 40 years. [Michele Rolandson, 218-780-1917]
