Obituary of Kay Lenore Burgraff
Kay Lenore Burgraff, 69 of Duluth, formerly of Holyoke, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. She was born November 6, 1961 in Cloquet to Harvey and Viola (Nelson) Sorenson. Kay grew up in Holyoke and graduated from Wrenshall High School in 1969. She married James Burgraff on May 28, 1997 in Las Vegas.
Kay worked as a CNA at St. Luke's Hospital and St. Mary's before going to work at the Carlton Nursing Home where she worked as a CNA and later in the laundry department. Kay did foster care for 16 years. She also did animal foster care for Friends of Animals for many years. Kay had a love for all animals and always did whatever she could to help those in need.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, James "Sugar Bear" and an infant granddaughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Sara Sorenson of Duluth; sisters, Karen (Eldon) Grover and Kristi (Kevin) Koen both of Wrenshall; brother, Kurtis (Sue) Sorenson of Esko; her "bonus kids", Lisa (Brian) Magnuson, Amanda (Sonny) Jackson, and Preston Lepinski; grandchildren, Bryant, Savannah, Nathan, Shane, Jasmine, and Mekaila.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 in the Silver Brook Town Hall in Wrenshall. Private family burial will be in Holyoke Cemetery.
