Obituary of Arnold John Parviainen

Arnold John Parviainen "Parv", 77 of Mahtowa, died Friday, March 5, 2021 in St. Luke's Hospice, Duluth. He was born April 8, 1943 in Mahtowa, the son of John and Tyyne Parviainen. Parv was a 1961 graduate of Barnum High School where he played on the undefeated football team his senior year. He married his wife, Holly, on August 27, 2005 in Carlton. Parv enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, country music, talking on the phone and gossiping. He will be remembered as the "Polka king of the north" and was an avid bowler and loved all sports including fast-pitch softball. Parv loved his cattle and his dogs. He will long be remembered for his happy, fun, jolly nature and was really a big hearted teddy bear. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marlene. Parv is survived by his wife, Holly; children, Todd (Debbi) Slater, Linda (Mike) Conner, Marci (Gary) Moreland, Cindy Slater and Duane (Emily Williams) LaDuke; sister, Jeannette Bradford; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and special friends, Albert Johnson, Mike Suronen and Brad Peterson. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the 12:00 Noon Funeral Service, Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Masks and social distancing are required. From the funeral home parking lot, the service may be heard on 98.3. A casual celebration of life will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Beehive Community Club. Cards may be sent to the family c/o Atkins-Northland Funeral Home.
