Obituary of Lois Elaine Johnson

Lois Elaine Johnson, 87 of Atkinson passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth of natural causes after a brief illness. She was born November 4, 1933 in Cloquet to Fred and Esther (Erikson) Carlson. She grew up in Atkinson and graduated from Barnum High School in 1951. Lois received an Associate's Degree from Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. While in the twin cities, see worked as a bookkeeper at Lutheran Brotherhood. She also worked at Dayton's Dept. Store. Lois enjoyed bowling and golfing. After returning to Atkinson, she worked at Northwest Paper. Lois married Marvin Johnson on June 1, 1963 and they made their home in Atkinson where they farmed. Lois milked cows until she was 70 years old. She was lovingly referred to as the "chore boss". During the 1980's she was a cook at TJ's in Mahtowa and she had her own catering business during the 1980's and 90's. She enjoyed baking for family and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; brothers, Lloyd (Edithe), Kenneth, and F. Willard Carlson; sister, Dolores Asproth; and sister-in-law, Shirley Carlson. She is survived by one son, Keith (Tiffany) of Atkinson; one daughter, Kim (Dane) Hedquist of Atkinson; brother-in-law, Herman Asproth of New Brighton; sister-in-law, Jan Carlson of Forest Lake; two grandchildren, Bryce Hedquist and Tarin (Matthew) Driver; one great grandson, Landon Driver; and many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation: 11:00 a.m. until the 12:00 Noon funeral service Thursday, June 3, 2021 in the Barnum Community Church. Her nephew, Kendall Carlson will be officiating. Please follow COVID guidelines. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow.
