Obituary of Wilbur Mills

Wilbur "Pete" Emerson Mills, 99 of Carlton passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. He was born May 12, 1922 in Bemidji to Wilbur and Mercy (Rice) Mills. He graduated from high school in 1940 and went on to receive an Associates Degree from Bemidji State Technical College. Pete served in the Army from 1942 until 1946. On January 22, 1946 he married Frances "Connie" Considine in Bemidji. After his discharge from the service, Pete worked in the petroleum business from 1947 until retiring in 1987. Pete was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and since living in Carlton, he attended St. Francis Catholic Church. He was a Senior Master in the ACBL Club and was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed playing bridge at the Cloquet Duplicate Bridge Club. Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Connie; three grandsons, Steven Chard, Joshua Kolosky and Logan Gilbert-Chard; and two brothers, Phillip Mills and Robert Mills. He is survived by 14 children, Bridget (Thomas) Chard, Gail (John) Biron, Janet (Robert) Tischer, Jean (Gary) Krusz, Patricia (Gene) VanHoever, Victoria (Rick) Heinrich, Anne (Gene) Schilling, William (Connie) Mills, Ruth (Dan) Hagenah, Clare (Mike) Balow, Mark (Annette) Mills, Carol (Troy) Melin, Thomas (Angie) Mills, and Mary (Todd) Palmer; 32 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Visitation: 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, July 20, 2021 in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet. Inurnment will be in Old Calvary Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the church social hall.
