Park Lake Lane will surely not be the same without Roy. He will be sadly missed.
He regularly told many stories to our Family regarding my Husband Don's older brothers,
who grew up with Roy. We learned many things we didn't know about those boys!
Don passed 5 years ago, but Roy still got a tear in his eye whenever we talked about
the visits they used to have. It's comforting to think that maybe now those visits have
resumed.
I always looked forward to seeing him out in the yard as I passed by. If he wasn't
outside for a visit, I could see his arm in the front window as he waved. He did a
wonderful job maintaining his yard and all the beautiful flowers Betty had, and was
so proud to be able to do that. I'm so pleased he was able to live out his last years here.
Rest in peace, Roy, and my sincere condolences to the Peterson Family

Roy was a bright light in our life! Through snow and heat and sun and wind, we met in the driveway or yard and gabbed about the day's happenings. We loved Roy so much, loved his stories, songs, jokes, and smile. We committed to living at Park Lake full time, and a big part of our decision was to be near our friend Roy. We will miss him immensely.

I've known Roy, and Betty, since the late 1940's at Park Lake where my dad built a cabin. Betty provided vitamin shots to one of my aunts, and Roy went to school with my aunt Lydia at the Covenant Park school building. A wonderfully steadfast and generous pair they have been since my childhood. Roy has been good humored, caring as a neighbor, presenting his wood carvings of the Swedish thermometer (tree above zero or tree below zero), caring for his property and his neighbors, with loving attention. Proud of his children and grandchildren. We shared time looking at his history in the military, inclluding old photos of life in Mahtowa on his return, his marriage to the love of his life, and he always had time for a chat if we strolled down the road past his home. Coming from California is recent years, I made a point of visiting and he warmly welcomed time together with a local update including how he got through the most recent winter. He was optimistic but tough and strong. A realist to the end, he was pleasant and conversant during a recent visit in Cloquet, knowing this (pointing to his bed in Sunnyside) was where he belonged, for safety and good care. Rest in peace, good, kind, modest, and ever gracious neighbor and friend. Have continued good, satisfying visits with your beloved Betty.

Couldn't have asked for a better neighbor and mentor when we lived near him out on Park Lake, many of the world's problems were solved at the dining room table & front yard by the lake with him and Betty. We think of them often as we still have the bird houses hanging in our yard today that he made for both of our kids, our condolences and many hugs to all of his family.
