Obituary of Roy E. Peterson
Roy E. Peterson age 94 of Mahtowa passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 in Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet. Roy was born on January 6, 1927 in Cloquet to Carl and Nancy Peterson. He graduated from Barnum High School and went into the service. He was in the Army 82nd Airborne Division.
After his discharge from the Army, Roy returned to Mahtowa and married Betty L. Lycander and attended Business College Duluth. Roy was on the Goodwill Industries Board and served the city of Duluth as a member of the Duluth Transit Authority. He was a past member of the Lions and longtime member of Post 71 - West Duluth American Legion.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty; his parents; and brothers, Chester, Bill, Ervin, Allen and Rodney.
He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Peterson and Debi (Jack) Steinbach; son, Mark (Niki) Peterson all of Hermantown; five grandchildren, Shannon, Griffin, Justin, Alexa and Delaney; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence (Mary) Peterson of Rockford, IL; and many special friends in Mahtowa and Park Lake.
Visitation: 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 12, 2021 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet. Visitation will continue from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Friday, August 13th in Salem Lutheran Church in Mahtowa. Burial will be in Mount Salem Cemetery, Mahtowa.
