Obituary of Jane Helen Salo

Jane Helen (Nelson) Salo, 100 of Cloquet passed away Monday, September 6, 2021. She was born December 13, 1920 in Cloquet, the daughter of Walter and Hilda (Nelson) Nelson. She married Ray W. Salo on April 10, 1954. She and Ray raised their four children in Cloquet where she was a homemaker. They enjoyed traveling to visit friends all over the country and supporting all the activities of their children and their children's friends. Her family will always remember and miss "Grandma's Finnish Rye Bread" and all the wonderful Christmas cookies. Jane was much loved by her children, family and friends. Jane was an active lifetime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. She was proud of the fact that she had been a member for 100 years. Her faith was important to her and provided her strength throughout her life. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; brothers-in-law, Rueben and Garith; sister-in-law and her husband, Elsie and Rudolph Kajander; and son-in-law, Tim Ellingson. Those left to honor Jane's memory include her children, Janine (Dennis) Johnson of Bettendorf, Iowa, Gretchen Bastien of Forest Lake, Faith Salo of Cloquet, and Charles (Jill) Salo of Cloquet; sisters, Rose Marie Liimatainen of Cloquet and Marjorie Kangas of Madison, Wisc.; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Ann) Salo of Dayton, Minn.; grandchildren, Stacy (Shawn) Halli, Kristi (Mike) Wooden, Erik (Gina) Blair, Hope Hieb, Christine (Mike) Sawyer, Seth Johnson, and Hannah Johnson; and 14 great grandchildren. The family would like to express their deepest thanks and appreciation to honorary granddaughter, Jordan Anderson who provided much loving care to our mother. Visitation: 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service Friday, September 17, 2021 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 615 12th St., Cloquet. Inurnment will be in Sunrise Memorial Cemetery, Hermantown. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
