Obituary of Lillie Mae LaVoy

Lillie “Lil” Mae LaVoy, 81, of Cloquet, MN passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth.  Lil was born in Detroit Lakes, MN on April 9, 1941 to Carl and Annabelle (Collins) Bergstrom.  She graduated from Brainerd High School in 1959.  Lil married Jack LaVoy on August 24, 1990 in Cloquet.

Lil worked at Crow Wing, Olmsted, and Carlton Counties for 30 years as an Eligibility Specialist before her retirement.  She enjoyed working and serving at the V.F.W. and was also the District President, State President, Auxiliary President, District Treasurer, and Treasurer the of V.F.W. Auxiliary 3979.  She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack LaVoy; step-son, Patrick LaVoy; daughter-in-law, Nancy LaVoy; grandsons, Troy LaVoy and Marvin Friedrich; brothers, Henry Gebhard and Mike Gebhard; three nephews, Mike Fredrickson, Norman Fredrickson and Tony Gebhard.

Lil is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Pete) Giffen of Wrenshall, Shelly (Justin Powers) Carter of Duluth, Wendy (John) Knutson of Duluth; step-son, Jack LaVoy of Pike Lake; step-daughters, Connie Morris of Medford, Oregon, Annette (Steven) White of Walker and Linda Lavoy of Cloquet; sisters, Mildred Burnelle of Brainerd and Edna Gakin of Brainerd; brother, Tony Gebhard of Little Falls; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visitation: 12:00 p.m. until the 1:00 p.m. celebration of life Thursday, July 21, 2022 will be held in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.  Burial will follow the service in New Calvary Cemetery, Cloquet.  In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Silver Bay Veterans Home’s Activity Department, 56 Outer Dr, Silver Bay, MN 55614.  Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.  DETOUR: Due to construction on 14th Street please use the temporary back entrance to the funeral home off 12th Street.  Access from Doddridge Avenue.  To sign the guest book and leave an online tribute see, www.atkinsnorthlandfuneralhome.com
