Obituary of Benjamin Safratowich

Benjamin (Ben) Safratowich Sr. of Beavercreek, OH, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Hospice of Dayton with his loving family and friends by his bedside. Ben was born April 9, 1939, in Belfield, ND to Frank and Tekla (Paluck) Safratowich. His family moved to Park Rapids, MN when Ben was 3 years old. He graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1959. Ben proudly served in the National Guard during high school. Ben married Patricia (Crowell) Severtson December 13, 1969, in Park Rapids. They moved to Cloquet, MN in 1972 where they raised their children.

Ben worked construction in North Dakota, South Dakota and Duluth, MN. Ben was a proud member of Laborers Local 1091 and Cement Masons Local 52. Ben helped build the bridges and tunnels on I-35 from Scanlon to London Road. As well as grain elevators and the sewage treatment plant in Duluth and Superior, WI. Ben was a friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob for 42 years, 9 months and 11 days. Ben and Pat enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. They also enjoyed camping, traveling to most of the U.S. states, Mexico, United Kingdom, and Europe. Ben especially enjoyed visiting Poland, the birthplace of his parents.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, Mona Ramsey, father-in-law, Clifford Crowell, son Daryl Severtson, granddaughter Heather Tracy, great-granddaughter Aleaha Hines. Two sisters Frances Steffenhagen and Marianne Torma. Brothers Joseph, John, Victor, and Richard. Brothers-in-law Alfred Staffenhagen, Jim, Fred, and Bill (Donna) Crowell. Sisters-in-law Louise and Claren.

Ben is survived by his wife Patricia, daughters Danette (Mike) Authenreith of Springfield, OH, Della Severtson, Fairbanks, AK. Sons Daniel (Melissa) Severtson, San Antonio, TX, Dean (Mindy) Severtson, Cedarville, OH, Benjamin (Julie) Safratowich Jr., Burnsville, MN. Daughter-in-law Tammy Severtson, Sioux Falls, SD. Sisters Millie Seney, Woodland CA, Patricia (Edward) Becker, Brainerd, MN. Sister-in-law Jarry Safratowich, Redmond, OR. 29 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be September 10, 2022, at Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet, MN 55720. Visitation starting at 1:00pm. Service begins at 2:00pm, luncheon to follow.
