Obituary of Don Oman

Don Oman was born in St Paul, Minnesota on July 29, 1951 to Carl & Gertrude Oman, he was their second son, and the 3rd child of six.  Don married Jean Marie Kreckelberg on October 25, 1980 at Arlington Hills Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Don worked for 25 years at American National Bank in downtown St Paul until he went on disability in March of 1996.

 

Don was a very active volunteer. Both he and his wife served as volunteers weekly at Gillette Children's Hospital for 10 years. Don was on the Board of Directors of the "Friends of Gillette" auxiliary. Don also volunteered for several TV telethons and managed different checkpoints for the March of Dimes "Walk America" in St Paul. Don and Jean participated in a program with Gillette Hospital where they provided a room for parents of children during their child's stay at the hospital. Don was honorably awarded "Volunteer of the Year" at American National Bank in St Paul Minnesota.

 

In 1996 Don and Jean moved to a home on a small lake in northern Minnesota. He continued his love of volunteer work at Bethany Church for 15 years, and volunteered at a local school. He also helped to form and was President of the CWALA (Cromwell Wright area Lake Association) for its first few years. Don was also recognized by Blue Cross/ Blue Shield of Minnesota as a "Champion of Health" for his work in forming and directing the "Called to Care" program in the Cromwell and Wright area. Both Don and Jean relocated to Bullhead City, Az. where he enjoyed volunteering for Community Lutheran Church.

 

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Carl W. and Gertrude C. (Nordeen) Oman; and his sister, Janice Strub.

 

Don is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jean M (Krekelberg) Oman; his brother, Bill (Diane) of Roseville MN; 3 sisters, Dorothy (Bill) von Lehe of Le Sueur MN, Carol (Jon) Empanger of Chaska MN, and Julie (Bruce) Phillips of Eureka MT. Donnie was also blessed with 14 nieces and nephews, 23 great nieces and nephews, and 1 great-great niece.

 

Don was very loved by his friends, family, church family, and wife. He will be dearly missed.

Services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Lakeville Township.
