Obituary of Sophie M. Okerstrom

Sophie Mildred Marie Okerstrom, 91, of Cloquet passed away Monday, January 7, 2002 in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital. Sophie was born to Alben and Helena Carlson on November 29, 1910, in Sunrise, MN. Sophie had a catering business for many years and had also been an employee of the Cloquet Public Schools where she was the head cook at Leach School and a cook at the Cloquet High School. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was very active in church activities for many decades. She was an active volunteer for many years in various organizations including the American Cancer Society where she served as treasurer and did many other duties and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy, and 13 brothers and sisters. Sophie is survived by her children, Joyce Okerstrom of Cloquet, Roland (Eileen) Okerstrom of Fergus Falls, Paulette (Marv) Swanson and Tom (Nona) Okerstrom of Stillwater; 7 grandchildren, Mitch Okerstrom and Jodi Steine of Fergus Falls, Chris Swanson of San Diego, CA, Shannon Swanson of San Francisco, CA, Thomas Okerstrom, Jr. of Stillwater, Scott Okerstrom of Breckenridge, CO and Leah Okerstrom of Minneapolis; 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services were held Thursday, January 10, 2002 in Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Avenue, Cloquet. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
