Obituary of Onni Armas Siimes

Onni Armas Siimes, 86 of Cloquet died Monday, August 11, 2003 in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born June 20, 1917 in Ishpeming, Michigan to Axel and Hilda (Haapiainen) Siimes. He grew up in Rock, Michigan, graduating from high school in 1935. Onni farmed and logged as a young man. For the majority of his life, he worked in construction, retiring in 1974. Onni was an Army Veteran of WWII serving in the South Pacific. He wintered in Lake Worth, Florida. He met Florence (Pykkonen) Nieminen while wintering in Florida and in 1978 they were married in Clarksville, Tennessee. After their marriage, they made their home in Cloquet. Onni was a life member of the DAV and a member of the Cloquet VFW Post 3979 and the Esko Senior Citizens. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lillian Enberg and a nephew, Kenneth Enberg. Onni is survived by his wife, Florence of Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, step-daughter, Judy Wenzel of Kentucky; step-son, Thomas Nieminen of Nevada; step-grandsons, Joshua and Joe Wenzel both of Kentucky; his niece, Ann Marie Price of Michigan. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
