Obituary of Willard Oscar Dalbacka

Willard Oscar Dalbacka, a longtime Floodwood resident, recently residing in Brookston, died Friday, September 5, 2003 in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born February 20, 1914 to Armeta and Oscar Dalbacka in Gowan, Minnesota. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. In 1941 he married Frances Polich. During World War II he served in the Army in Australia. He worked for many years as a mechanic/welder for Ulland Brothers, Inc. Willard enjoyed performing the sauna song and playing his violin. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars in the Floodwood area. He volunteered for many community activities, was named Outstanding Senior Citizen for south St. Louis County in 1989, and received a Certificate of Commendation from Governor Rudy Perpich. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to his friends who helped in recent years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Armeta; his wife, Frances; a sister, Vienno Wrozek; and grandson, Paul Holloman. Willard is survived by his children Virginia Holloman of Colorado Springs, CO., Sheila (Ralph) Autio of Duluth, James of White Bear Lake, Patricia (Gary) Indahl of International Falls, and Angie (Marty) Cody of International Falls; sisters Allie Riehle and Maymie Rauvola; brothers Orvo, Veikko and Glen; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Monday, September 8, 2003 at Hope Lutheran Church, Floodwood. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Van Buren Township. Arrangements are by Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet.
