Obituary of Eugene E. Kemi

Eugene E. Kemi, 82, Cloquet, died Monday, August 19, 2002 in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital. He was born April 11, 1920 in Cloquet, the son of August and Hilja Kemi. Eugene served as a tank commander in the 214th Tank Destroyer Division during WWII. He married LaVerne Pettit on February 4, 1950 in Cloquet. Eugene worked as a crane operator for more than 40 years for Conwed, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Hebert-Kennedy VFW 3979 in Cloquet. He is preceded in death by his wife of more than 51 years, LaVerne on March 23, 2001; a daughter-in-law, Shelly Kemi; a granddaughter, Carrie Demenge; two sisters, Esther Johnson and Evelyn Shepeck; and three brothers, Leo, Roy and Donald Kemi. Eugene is survived by two daughters, Elaine Demenge of Cloquet and Lois (Jay) Anderson of Carlton; three sons, Robert Kemi, Lyle (Karen) Kemi and Gordon (Julie) Kemi, all of Cloquet; 10 grandchildren, Chris and Wade Kemi; Dana, Nicole and Tom Demenge, Jr.; Sam, Katie and Lily Kemi; and Katrina and Tori Anderson; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Miriam Maki of Esko and Lorraine (Jim) Meyer of Glencoe, MN; three brothers, Carl Kemi and Ray (Hazel) Kemi, both of Esko and George Kemi of Cloquet. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 21, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Wright.
