Obituary of Kenneth Vernon Johnson

Kenneth Vernon Johnson, 77 of Carlton died Sunday, June 29, 2003 in his home with his loving family by his side. He was born July 1, 1925 in Superior, Wisconsin to Vernon and Shirley Johnson. Ken grew up in Carlton and graduated from Carlton High School. He attended Michigan State University. Ken was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. After the war, he returned to Carlton and worked at Potlatch for the next 42 years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club. Ken enjoyed woodworking, golfing, reading, sports and being outdoors. Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Marylis in 1993 and his sister, Dorothy Taylor. He is survived by his three children, Rose Caddy of Crosby, Vern Johnson of St. Paul, and Lynn (Harvey) Willoughby of Esko; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from Noon until the 1:00 p.m. memorial service Saturday, July 12, 2003 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet with Pastor Dennis Morreim officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carlton VFW Honor Guard.
