Maureen Lois (Krohn) Roberts, 73, of Cloquet, MN, and Coolidge, AZ, died March 19, 2003, attended by her family, after a courageous battle against multiple myeloma. Born Sept. 27, 1929, to Elizabeth (Beneke) and Axel Krohn, she married James Roberts on July 23, 1949, and lived the majority of her life in Scanlon and at Big Lake. Maureen was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church of Scanlon, where she had sung in the choir, taught Sunday school, enjoyed membership in the Ladies' Aid, and held various offices. She worked for many years in the Cloquet school system and in the Carlton County Auditor's Office and had relished membership in the Ski Fleas Snowmobile Club when she spent her winters in the Northland. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, her parents-in-law Edgar and Winnie Roberts, by her brothers Robert and Lloyd "Sonny" Krohn, brother-in-law Toivo Laakso, and sister-in-law Donna Lavoy, all with whom she is now walking and laughing again. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim, her daughter Adele (Dan) Krusz of Canyon, MN, her son Ross (Sun Yon) Roberts of San Antonio, TX, her granddaughter Jessica (William) Cassidy and great-granddaughter Haley, also of San Antonio, her sister Shirley Laakso of Saginaw, brother Galen (Gloria) Krohn of Forest Lake, sister-in-law Janice Krohn of Cloquet, brother-in-law Dick (Pauline) Roberts of Cloquet, 16 nieces and nephews, and numerous other loving relatives and friends, including her maternal aunts Adele Bartingale and Erica Stotesbury of Eau Claire, WI. She is greatly missed by all. A celebration of her life was held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Scanlon on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. Memorials to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (http://www.multiplemyeloma.org/) or the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
