Obituary of Verna Maunu Liimatainen Smith

Verna Maunu Liimatainen Smith, 82 formerly of Esko died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 in St. Anthony Health Care Center, in St. Anthony Village, Minn. She was born January 18, 1920 in Esko to Frank and Lydia (Huhtala) Ware. She married Walter Maunu and together they raised their family on a dairy farm in Esko. She later worked in Jay Cooke Park and the fire tower. Verna retired to Florida and later spent 13 years in Mesa, Arizona. For the past 4 years, she lived at St. Anthony Health Care Center to be near her son and families. Verna was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Maunu; second husband, Waino Liimatainen and a son, Sherman Maunu. Verna is survived by her son, Ronald (Diane) Maunu of Blaine; daughter-in-law, Tomi Richardson of Titusville, Florida; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and many other friends and relatives. A memorial service was held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 22, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. A time of fellowship and lunch followed in the Fireside room of the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery in Esko. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
