Obituary of Walter Mullenix

Walter "Skeeter" Mullenix, 77 of Barnum died Saturday, March 30, 2002 in his home. He was born August 9, 1924 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Frank and Mary Mullenix. Walter was an Army Veteran of WWII. He married June Starnes on January 5, 1946 in Sioux Falls. In 1952 they moved to Barnum where they farmed and Walter worked at the Wrenshall Refinery. After 32 years at the refinery, Walter retired to Watertown, South Dakota in 1985. He returned to Barnum in 1995. He was a Life member of the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 2962 in Carlton. Walter was preceded in death by his wife, June on July 27, 1998; 3 brothers, Bus, Jay and Kelley; and 5 sisters, Ett, Margaret, Myrt, Dot and Bertha. He is survived by his fiance, Marjorie Krause of Cloquet; sons, Lonnie (Kathy Port) and Layle (Donna) both of Barnum, Lute of Dakota City, Nebraska and Larry (Robin) of Carlton; daughters, Susan Mullenix and Nancy (Stephen) Walker both of Duluth; Sisters, Pat DeWitte and Rosie Mae "Toad" Scott both of Sioux Falls; 18 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and his faithful companion, Muttley. A Memorial Service was held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 3, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Military Honors were accorded by the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW of Carlton. A time of fellowship and lunch followed in the Fireside Room of the Funeral Home.
