Obituary of Layle F. Mullenix

Layle F. Mullenix, Blackhoof Township, was born June 13, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD to Walter and June Mullenix. He died on September 18, 2003 in St. Mary's Medical Center after a courageous fight to recover from complications after a hernia surgery. Layle had been employed as a chief boiler operator for Potlatch Corporation in Cloquet for 25 years retiring in 2001. Before working for Potlatch, Layle had worked as an apprentice jeweler in Anchorage and as a heavy equipment operator for MinnTac. His favorite hobbies were riding his three wheel Harley with his brother, Lute, and his best friend, Dan. He especially enjoyed hunting with his son and dear friends, Dorcus and Eddie Johnson, fishing with his son and playing cribbage with his dear friend Marie Jurek. He was preceded in death by his parents and both sets of grandparents. Layle is survived by his life long friend, companion and wife of 27 years, Donna; his two children, Skeeter (Michelle St Germain) of Barnum and Angela Mullenix (Rousey Johnson) of Hibbing; three brothers, Lonnie (Kathy) of Barnum, Lute of Sioux City, IA, and Larry (Robin) Mullenix of Carlton; two sisters, Susan Mullenix and Nancy (Stephan) Walker, both of Duluth; several nieces and nephews, two Godchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. He also had a special little boy that he was very fond of (Aaron) although he never was able to see him anymore, Aaron was very dear to Layle's heart. He had two pets that were very special to him, Shearcon his cat, life long friend and companion who often shared his meal. He will also be missed by his adopted small dog, Teddy, who often shared his lap when he sat in his favorite chair. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 12th and Doddridge, Cloquet.
