Obituary of Walter Martin Johnson

Walter Martin Johnson, 83 of Wright, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003 in Villa Vista Nursing Home in Cromwell. He was born December 17, 1919 in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin to Gustave and Della (Pence) Johnson. He was raised in Tamarack and attended North Star School. He married Thelma Jorgenson on October 1, 1942 in Wheaton, Minnesota. After his marriage, he and Thelma lived in Fairmont, North Dakota where he was a truck driver for Cudahay Packing Company from 1944 - 1952. From 1952 - 1956, he was a truck driver for Lenzmeir Trucking in Wahpeton, North Dakota and in 1956, the family moved to Wright, where Walter farmed for 30 years, retiring in 1986. Walter served for many years as the Beseman Township Clerk and on the Farmers Co-op Store Board. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Aitkin. Walter was a volunteer weather observer for the National Weather Service, a member of the Wright Senior Citizens and the Big Sandy Lake Area Watershed. He was always interested in nature and the environment. He enjoyed gardening, weather and wildlife watching, fishing, reading and music. He is survived by his wife, Thelma of Wright; a daughter, Linda (Mark) Dahlman of Wright; a brother, Darrel (Elaine) Johnson of Tamarack; a sister, Marge (Barry) LeVesseur of Hutchinson, MN; three granddaughters, Angela Warner of Brighton, CO, Rosalyn Dahlman of San Jose, Costa Rica and Suzanne Dahlman of Cromwell; nieces and nephews, Martin Johnson, Michael LeVesseur, Melinda Toutges and Muriel Senske and a special friend, Art Jauss of Wright. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 17, 2003 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery in Wright. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
