Obituary of Katharine Marie Dahlman

Katharine Marie Dahlman, 85, Cromwell, died Friday, April 30, 2004 in Cloquet Community Memorial Nursing Home. She was born June 5, 1918 in Floodwood, the daughter of John and Jennie (Norman) Tveit. She attended the Halden School through the eighth grade, was a 1936 graduate of Floodwood High School and attended State Teachers College in Duluth. Katharine married Wallace Dahlman on August 16, 1939 in Floodwood. Following her marriage, she raised her family and helped her husband with farming. After her children were grown, Katharine was an Avon representative and a Weight Watchers Lecturer for eight years. She then started painting, both oil and acrylic, and painted many beautiful pictures and murals that grace the walls of many area homes and businesses. Katharine was a very active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell where she was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher, sang in the choir for many years and was a member of the Bethany Circle. She was also a member of the Young Old Timers, Arrowhead Art Club, was a board member of the A.R.D.C. and the Carlton County Advisory Board of Aging, was voted as the Success Over 60 Woman of the Year for Minnesota and was named the Carlton County Outstanding Senior Citizen. Her famous home made lemon pie was enjoyed by many through the years. Katharine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace in 1981; her step-mother, Myrtle Tveit; a brother, Roger Tveit and a granddaughter-in-law, Katrina Dahlman. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret (Howard) Taylor of Duluth and Jennie (Robert) Hanson of Wright; three sons, Glen (Anne) Dahlman of Petaluma, CA, John (Mary) Dahlman of Thornton, CO and Mark (Linda) Dahlman of Wright; a sister, Irene Bolstad of Floodwood; a brother, James Tveit of Washington; 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren with a new great grandchild due in May and 7 step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 in Bethany Lutheran Church, Cromwell.
