Obituary of Elmer T. Halvorson

Elmer T. Halvorson, 78 of Esko died Saturday, March 9, 2002 in the Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born on September 3, 1923 in Cloquet to Halvor and Gunhild (Thorenson) Halvorson. Elmer married Mabel Mattila on July 3, 1946 in Cloquet. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II on the USS Celena. Elmer owned and operated a service station specializing in small engine and chainsaw repair. He was a former member of the Cloquet VFW. Elmer was known to be a great conversationalist and storyteller. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Adolf, Carl, and Henry; and 2 sisters, Gertrude and Myrtle Elmer is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mabel; son, Gary (Sandy) Halvorson of Prior Lake, MN; daughter, Kathy (Ben) Hacker of Manford, OK; brother, Melvin Halvorson of Coeur D Alene, ID; and 6 grandchildren. Visitation was from 12:00 noon until the 1:00 pm service Wednesday, March 13, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet with Clifford Johnson officiating. Military Honors were accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
