Obituary of Helen Sylvia Repo

Helen Sylvia Repo, 86 of Floodwood died Wednesday, August 21, 2002 in Chris Jensen Nursing Home in Duluth. She was born October 25, 1915 in Brookston to Joel and Amanda (Nevala) Honkala. When she was 16 her family moved to Floodwood. During the 1930's she was a cook and housekeeper in New York. Helen married Oscar Repo on November 11, 1949 in Cloquet. She farmed with her husband in Floodwood for more than 20 years. Helen was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Floodwood, TOPS and a survivor of the 1918 fire. She enjoyed crocheting and traveling with her friend and companion Eino Samuelson since 1985. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Repo; brothers, Alfred, Eino and Willard Honkala; sister, Elma Berg and her special friend, Eino Samuelson. She is survived by her children, Mildred (Ken) Davis of Fenton, MI, David (Judy) Luoma of Andover, Gloria (Merrill) Miller of Kohler, WI, Wayne Repo of Blaine and Linda Kessler of Duluth; sister, Esther Luoma of Duluth; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 24, 2002 in Hope Lutheran Church in Floodwood. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Van Buren Township. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet.
