Obituary of Tuovi Ojala

Tuovi "Mummu" Ojala, 80 of Cloquet, died Thursday, October 11, 2001 in Cloquet after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 8, 1920 in Kiikka, Finland to Vaino and Laimi (Hoipo) Valimaki. She married Arne Ojala on April 21, 1940 in Finland. She came to the United States in 1954 with her husband and four children. Mummu was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose, Eagles Auxiliary, Suomi Klubi, Finlandia Beach Association and Ladies of Kalevala. She was a volunteer with many groups in the area. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and helping others. She also enjoyed traveling to Finland to visit her family. In August of this year, she was able to return to Finland for her mother's 100th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arne in 1981; a son, Seppo in 1989; her father and 2 sisters. Mummu is survived by two daughters, Maire (Keith) Westerham of Cloquet, Irene (Howard) Davenport of San Antonio, Texas; son, Esa (Marie) Ojala of Esko; daughter-in-law, Alma Ojala of Cloquet; her mother, Laimi Valimaki of Finland; nine sisters, Helga, Helmi, Kaarrina, Ilma, Hilkka, Kerttu, Leila, Tuula and Marjatta all of Finland; grandchildren, Cathy (Garry) Stubbs of Belleville, Illinois, Wayne (Thane) Ojala of England, Denise (Mark) Warner of Saginaw, Ashley Ojala of Esko; great grandchildren, Erik and Tyler Stubbs and Jari, Katherine, Kalie Ojala; nieces and nephews in Finland and numerous friends and special family at Larson Commons. Visitation was Sunday, October 14, 2001 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Monday, October 15, 2001 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1705 Wilson Avenue in Cloquet. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cloquet. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
