Obituary of Gilbert R. Thieling

Gilbert R. Thieling, 83, of Barnum, died Friday, May 2, 2003 in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. He was born June 2, 1919 in St. Paul, the son of Fred and Anna (Graupman) Thieling. As a small child, he moved with his family to Nickerson and then they later moved to Barnum. He married Eileen Young on September 11, 1947 in Webster, SD. Gilbert was employed as a crane operator at Diamond Brands Match Mill, Cloquet, from 1951 until his retirement in 1983. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis, LeRoy and Fred and three sisters, Teddy Williams, Ruth Rice and Gertrude Skoglund. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eileen, of Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake; two sons, Gerald (LaVerne) of Barnum and Gene of Duluth; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Margie Paulson of Barnum and Cecelia Bowman of Appeton, CA. Graveside Services were held Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, south of Barnum. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
