Obituary of Clarence Gustafson

Clarence Gustafson, 84, Mahtowa, died Monday, December 15, 2003 in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. He was born in Atkinson Township on August 28, 1919. He attended Park Lake school, a one room school with all eight grades. He married Frances Anderson on November 2, 1946. As a young man, he owned and operated a dairy farm with his father. In 1979, he sold the farm to his son and continued to work with his son and grandson until the age of 83. Clarence served on the Atkinson Town Board, the Soil and Water Conservation Board for 41 years, was a member of the Carlton County Guernsey Breeders Association, was a long time supporter of the Carlton County Fair, was a Delegate for the Associated Milk Producers, was a member of Gideon International and the Mahtowa Covenant Church and served on the church board. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hulda Gustafson; an infant son and daughter; a brother, Hugo Gustafson and a sister, Hildur Bergstrom. His quiet spirit will be missed by his many family and friends including his wife, Frances of Mahtowa; son, Roger (Susan) of Mahtowa, daughter, Janet Madrigal of Minneapolis, two grandchildren, Rachel (Marty) Nelson and Scott (Mandy) Gustafson; three great grandchildren, Madeline and Gracie Nelson and Evan Gustafson; a cousin, Gilbert Carlson of Edgewater, WA; a nephew, James Bergstrom; a niece, Harriet Kelly and several cousins in Sweden. Funeral Services were held on Friday, December 19, 2003 in Mahtowa Covenant Church. Interment was in Mount Salem Cemetery, Mahtowa.
