Obituary of Arvo O. Lumppio

Arvo O. Lumppio, 90, Cloquet, died Sunday, March 3, 2002 in Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton. He was born March 17, 1911 in Cloquet, the son of Alfred and Sofia (Pajara) Lumppio. He attended the Cloquet schools. Arvo married Eivor Gustafson on September 15, 1946 in Cloquet. He was an Army veteran service in Australia and in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Arvo was an auto body mechanic and had worked at the Cloquet Co-op Garage until it closed; was the owner of Lumppio Body Shop for several years and then worked for Wood City Motors until retiring in 1972. He was a member of Hebert Kennedy VFW #3979 of Cloquet, the Esko Senior Citizens and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Arvo especially liked to dance and belonged to the Country Travelers Square Dance Club. He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Arne, Archie and Ahti; and a sister, Elma Isaacson. Arvo is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eivor of Cloquet; a son, John Lumppio of Big Falls, MN; a daughter, Susan (Greg) Immel of Richardson, TX; a sister, Aune Korby of Cloquet; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Brien and Gina Lumppio and Erin and Stephen Immel and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Services were held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 11, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet with lunch following in the Northland Fireside Room.
