Obituary of Helen W. Holten

Helen W. Holten, 92 of Duluth, formerly of Alborn died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 in Chris Jensen Nursing Home in Duluth with her loved ones by her side. Helen was born October 13, 1911 in Molitor Township, Wisconsin to Herman and Louisa (Fischer) Wetzel. At age 10 the family moved to Canyon, Minnesota where Helen attended elementary school. She also attended St. John's Lutheran Church where she was confirmed. At an early age, Helen attended and graduated from Young and Hursh Business College in Duluth. After graduation she was employed by the New England Life Insurance Company for eleven years and following that by Liscomb Hood Mason Insurance Company until her retirement. She married Peter Holten on August 4, 1932 and they resided most of their married life in Alborn, Minnesota and moved to Duluth after retiring. Helen was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Culver and a former member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Duluth. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Peter; two sisters, Martha Benson and Louise "Honey" Smith; two brothers, George Wetzel and Arne Wetzel. She is survived by one brother-in-law, Fred Smith of Torrance, California; several nieces and nephews and their families; a special nephew, G. Allan (Bev) Wetzel of Cloquet and their family, Chad, Shelley, Stacey and Shawna; and very kind friends, Charlene Wanvick of Duluth and Gladys Jessick of Duluth. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, December 5, 2003 in Faith Lutheran Church in Culver. Inurnment was in Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown. Memorial Contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Culver. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
