Obituary of Lucille Baker Nash

Lucille Baker Nash, 93, of Floodwood, died April 28, 2004 in the home of Peter and Sally Ruzynski. She was born August 7, 1910 in LaCrosse, WI, the daughter of Charles and Maude (Saunders) Baker. She was a 1933 graduate of LaCrosse Teachers College. Lucille married Charles A. Nash on December 26, 1933. She first taught school in Floodwood and then was the Cromwell High School Librarian and English teacher. She was the Floodwood English teacher until 1956 and then taught at the Alango High School in Angora. After teaching English in Clover Valley, she returned to end her teaching career in Floodwood, retiring in 1972. She also taught choir at various schools, directed many school plays and served as an advisor to many high school senior yearbooks. Lucille was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Floodwood. She played the organ and sang either solo or with very small choirs. After her retirement, she was a member of Northern Lights Homemakers where she served as an officer. Lucille enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, preserving and was famous for her dill pickles. She made many beautiful handwork pieces including baby sweaters for newborns of her former students, family and friends. She made over 50 fine needlepoints that hang in many homes. Another favorite hobby was making occasional cards from dried flowers with her own special messages. She had a life-long love of music, especially singing, and had a passion of sports. She enjoyed watching high school football, the Super Bowl and professional baseball. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Nash; two sons, Timothy Charles Nash and John Barington Nash; a daughter, Margaret Nash Klein and a great granddaughter, Rachel Michele Petrek. Lucille is survived by her daughter Sandra (William) Nash Petrek of Northfield; 5 grandchildren, Michele Petrek of Scotch Plains, NJ, Soren Petrek of St. Joseph, MN, Jacqueline Klein of Floodwood, Michael Nash of Prescott, AZ and Timothy Nash of Venice, CA; three great grandchildren, Max Ian Petrek, Riley James Petrek and Logan Barington Nash and other family members including Sally and Peter Ruzynski, Shirley Johnson, Roger Hill and James Pavlek, all of Floodwood. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Benedictine Health Care Center for their professional and personal care given to Lucille. Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church, Floodwood. Memorials may be made to Dollars for Scholars, c/o Floodwood School District.
