Obituary of Norman Kenneth Waseen

Norman Kenneth Waseen, 85 of Barnum died Monday, November 10, 2003 in Mercy Health Care Center in Moose Lake. He was born March 10, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois to Richard and Elvira (Norman) Waseen. He grew up and attended school in Barnum. He was an Army Veteran serving from 1941 to 1945. On January 22, 1944, Norman married Lorraine May Gardner. He worked for Maplewood Hatchery and Grace Lumber both in Barnum until 1949 at which time he went to work for Conwed in Cloquet until retiring in 1980. He was a member of Barnum United Methodist Church, the Carlton VFW, and had been a Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed being outdoors, woodworking, playing cards, listening to Lawrence Welk, and spending time with family. Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine on August 1, 2002; brothers, Clarence and Marvin; sisters, Leona Welch, Irma Rundgren and Florence Gardner. He is survived by two sons, Darrell (Maryelyn) of Coon Rapids and Rick (Kathy) of Barnum; one daughter, Linda (Roy) Ober of Cloquet; brother, Russell (Alice) Waseen of Moose Lake; sister, Beatrice Gardner of Duluth; seven grandchildren, Theresa Williams, Lisa Traun, Jenni Waseen, Steve Waseen, Tony Waseen, Deb Westerberg and Laura Ober; and one great grandson, Noah Westerberg. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 in the Barnum United Methodist Church. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Barnum. Military Honors were accorded by the Carlton VFW Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Barnum United Methodist Church. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
