Obituary of Anna Maijala

Anna Maijala, 86, Floodwood, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital. She was born September 9, 1917 in Haaften, Rotterdaun, Netherlands, the daughter of Henry and Artje (VanOosterum) Kiep. In 1919, Anna immigrated to the United States and settled in New Holland, S.D. with her family. She moved to Meadowlands in 1935, to Hibbing in 1948 and then moved to Floodwood in 1950. Anna married William Maijala on August 29, 1947 in Hibbing. She worked for the Floodwood school system as a school cook from 1962 until retiring in 1980. Anna was a member of the Floodwood Assemblies of God Church, Floodwood Senior Citizens and the Floodwood VFW Auxilliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William in 1949; a sister, Tillie VanDenhoek and a brother, Gerrit Kiep. Anna is survived by two daughters, Lillian (Roy) Osborne of Lakeland, FL and Irene (Douglas) Pirila of Floodwood; 3 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Thursday, July 22, 2004 in Hope Lutheran Church, Floodwood. Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Van Buren Township.
