Obituary of John H. Grubenla

John H. Grubenla, 89, Cloquet, died Monday, May 5, 2003 in his home. He was born January 1, 1914 in Thomson Township, the son of John and Anna Grubenla, Sr. John married Myrtle Crotteau on November 21, 1934. John began working as a millwright for Potlatch Corporation, previously Northwest Paper, in 1937 and retired on April 1, 1976, after 39 years of service. In his earlier years, John enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking and making wood crafts, gardening, yard work and he will fondly be remembered as doing everything with a smile. John was a member of the Cotton Senior Citizens, Potlatch Quarter Century Club and the Minnesota Senior Coalition. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne Johnson and several siblings. John is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Myrtle, of Cloquet; a son, Norman (Judy) Grubenla of Hermantown; a daughter, Shirley (Craig) Brouse of Duluth; 6 grandchildren, Sherri (Dale) Swanson of Champlin, MN, Kevin Brouse, Randy Brouse and Amy Grubenla, all of Duluth, Dawn Marie (Bernie) Olson of Superior and Melanie Grubenla of Anchorage, AK and four great grandchildren, Casey, Cory, Erika and Lyvia. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, May 9, 2003 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Cloquet.
