Obituary of Alice Marina Matvey

Alice Marina Matvey, died on her 89th birthday, Monday, December 2, 2002 in Leisure Hills Nursing Home in Grand Rapids. She was born December 2, 1913 in Grasston, Minn. to Andrew and Ella (Halbom) Turnboom. She was a young girl when her family moved to Meadowlands and Alice attended school in Elmer. She married Joe Matvey on July 6, 1935 in Duluth. Together they farmed in Elmer Township until retiring in 1985. Alice enjoyed the farm and milking cows. She also enjoyed knitting, quilting, baking and cooking, and spending time with her family and her grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Joe in 1996; brothers, Kenneth, Kermit, Emmett and Ben Turnboom; sisters, Blanche and Lucy. She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Bock of Meadowlands; sons, Len "Chuck" (Esther), and Les both of Meadowlands, and Walter "Buck" (Kathy) of Floodwood; sister, Joyce Makela of Meadowlands; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday in First Lutheran Church in Meadowlands. Burial was in Rosehill Cemetery in Elmer Township. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
