Obituary of Edwin W. Nyholm

Edwin W. Nyholm, 69, of Cloquet, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth, after a long, courageous battle with Mesothelioma. He was born in Duluth on September 22, 1932 to Waino W. and Ellen (Laakso) Nyholm. He was a 1950 graduate of Brookston High School and soon after graduation entered the Air Force, serving during the Korean War. Ed married Trudy Peterson on July 26, 1967 in Webster, S.D. He worked at Conwed Corporation in Cloquet, formerly Wood Conversion, for 35 years until the company sold in 1986. He then was a construction millwright for 8 years until his retirement in 1996. Ed was a member of the Carl Anderson American Legion Post 262, Cloquet. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, horseshoes, golf, camping, traveling, playing softball and water skiing using a ski he had made himself. Ed was preceded in death by a son, James, in 1972 and his parents. On Thursday, September 19, 2002, his son-in-law, Raymond Bocker passed away, also, following a courageous battle with cancer. They will both be sadly missed and remembered in our hearts. Ed is survived by his wife of 35 years, Trudy, of Cloquet; his children, Pamela Bocker of Groton, SD, Kevin (Gloria) Zelazny of Anchorage, AK, Barbara Smith of Carlton and Brenda (Paul) Schmitz of LaVergne, TN; a sister, Dorothy (Harvey) Jarvis of Cloquet; 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many other relatives and wonderful friends. Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 24, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Avenue, Cloquet. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. If desired, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice.
