Obituary of John Henry Kojo

John Henry Kojo, 76, a lifelong resident of Floodwood died Friday, January 24, 2003 in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. He was born August 2, 1926 in Floodwood to Henry and Lempi (Hietanen) Kojo. John was an Army Veteran serving in Germany during WWII. He married Lois Pomplun on October 4, 1952. John was a heavy equipment operator for the Local 49ers until his retirement in 1988. He also raised beef cattle and until 1999 owned and operated his own sawmill. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and the Floodwood VFW. John enjoyed trapping, logging, fishing and hunting. John was preceded in death by an infant son and two brothers, Eino and Waino Kojo. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois; daughter, Gladys (Jack) Laine and son, Kenny all of Floodwood; brothers, Matt (Bev) Kojo of Middleton, Wisc., and Ed Kojo of Floodwood; sisters, Lillian Polo of Wright and Anna Sandstrom of Floodwood; grandchildren, Eric (Wendy Davis) Laine and Jackie (Don) Ecklund both of Floodwood; great grandchildren, Ethan Laine and Chloe Ecklund and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in Hope Lutheran Church in Floodwood on Wednesday, January 29, 2003. Military honors were accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Burial was in Hope Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
