Obituary of Laila Sivia Liupakka-Hill

Laila Sivia Liupakka-Hill, 87, formerly of Cloquet and Muskegon, MI, died Monday, October 13, 2003 in Viewcrest Health Center, Duluth. She was born March 28, 1916 in Tamarack, MI, the daughter of Jacob and Anna Marie (Polki) Jutila. Laila married Elmer Liupakka on June 11, 1938 in Menagha. Laila's family was everything to her and she will be fondly remembered as an unselfish loving and caring mother and grandmother. She enjoyed baking and sharing her homebaked pies and breads with her family and friends. Laila attended Big Lake Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church. Laila was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Liupakka on June 8, 1992; three infant children; four sisters, Vieno Hendrickson, Mildred Tetu, Elvira Evenson and Sylvia Eliason; three brothers, Leo, Wilfred and Roy Jutila; and a grandson, Gerald Hendrickson, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Toivo Hill of Rock, MI, whom she married in Cloquet on June 7, 1997; a son, Donald (Kathleen) Liupakka of Muskegon, MI; three daughters, Marjorie (Sulo) Kangas, Jr. of Duluth, Verna (Marvin) Richardson and Janet (Wayne) Nygard, both of Cloquet; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and their families. The family would like to acknowledge their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the loving care given to Laila by the staff of Viewcrest Health Care Center. Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 16, 2003 in Apostolic Lutheran Church, Esko. Interment was in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery, Esko.
