Obituary of Henry S. Misiak

Henry S. Misiak, 67, of Cloquet, died suddenly Monday, February 18, 2002 in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital. He was born July 11, 1934 in Kepeno, Poland, the son of Jan and Pelagia (Zaremba) Misiak. Henry attended school in Ingelstadt (Bavaria) Germany. During the Nazi invasion of Poland, the family was deported to the camps in Dacau, Germany. After the liberation, because it was not safe for the family to return to Poland due to the Russian Community control of Poland, they came to the United States on August 9, 1949, arriving in New York. They then went to Minneapolis and finally settled in Moose Lake. Henry began working in 1952 for Northwest Paper in Cloquet and was inducted into the US Navy in 1956. He served on the Battleship USS Wisconsin and was on the fire and crash crew in Pensacola, FL. Following his military service, he returned to Cloquet and was employed until his retirement from Potlatch in 1993. He was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club; a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and as a youth was active in the Polish Boy Scouts in Germany. Henry was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an active outdoorsman, enjoying deer hunting, fishing, working in the woods and especially growing and tending his roses. Henry was a "handyman" and liked to help any friends and relatives that needed help. He was preceded in death by his father in 1977, his mother in 1993 and two brothers in Poland, Kazimierz and Zbigniew. Henry is survived by his wife, Bernice of Cloquet; two sons, Richard of Oceanside, CA and Frank of Cloquet; two daughters, Christine Misiak of Cloquet and Diane (Keith) Larson of Duluth; three grandchildren, Michelle Misiak, Brett and Kayla Larson; three brothers, Thaddeusz "Ted" (Janina) of Minneapolis, Joseph (Patricia) of Cloquet and John (Carol) of Hermantown; many nieces and nephews and many relatives in Poland. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 22, 2002 in Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery, Moose Lake.
