Obituary of Ailie Dagmar Mattson

Ailie D. Mattson, 91 of Esko died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 in Community Memorial Nursing Home in Cloquet. She was born January 3, 1911 in Thomson Township to Erick and Liisa (Eskuri) Mattson. She graduated from Esko High School in 1932. Ailie worked at the Bethany Children's Home in Duluth for a short time before returning home where she was needed to help her parents with the farm. She remained on the farm until her parents and brother died. In 1957 she went to live with her sister Lempi and Joseph Juntunen where she remained until 2001 at which time she moved to the nursing home. Ailie had a great love for music. She was the choir director at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in her younger years. She also played the violin and enjoyed doing handwork and embroidery. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Mike, Bill, Erick, Robert, Ben and Emil Mattson and two sisters, Lempi Juntunen and Esther Hill. Ailie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were 11:00 AM Saturday, March 23, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. A time of fellowship followed in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery in Esko.
