Obituary of Tauno K. Korpela

Tauno K. Korpela, 84 of Cromwell died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 in Mercy Health Care Center in Moose Lake with his family by his side. He was born April 7, 1919 in Automba to Gust and Minna (Funt) Korpela. Tauno attended Kalevala schools. He married Elsie Solomon on August 16, 1941 in Carlton. They lived in Superior after their marriage and Tauno worked at the grain elevators. They moved to Wright and Tauno worked as a butcher at the Cromwell Coop Store. He later moved to Kettle River where he farmed and was also the manager at the Kettle River Locker Plant for 35 years. Tauno was a member of the Eagle Lake Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Leland Tiili, sisters, Violet and Ellen; brothers, Hans, Art, Wiljo and Hugo. Tauno is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elsie; children, Carolyn (Richard) Chambers of Wright, Judy (George) Reinl of St. Cloud, Lonnie (Jeannette) Korpela of Carlton, Connie (Jim) Lind of Wright, Gary (Dianne Anderson) Korpela of Wright, Lynn (Jeff) Swatek of Kettle River and Lori (Todd) Johnson of Cromwell; brother, Arvo (Vivian) of Portland, Oregon; sisters, Hulda Hill, Linnea Autio and Florence (Art) Newgren all of Cromwell; 24 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 15 step grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 19, 2004 in Eagle Lake Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Eagle Township. Burial will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
