Obituary of Lyle Henry Hilton

Lyle Henry Hilton, 87, Cloquet, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 in The Waters of Park Point, Duluth. He was born in Central Lakes, MN on March 20, 1915 to Alonzo and Ellen (Shaw) Hilton. He was the last surviving of 12 Hilton siblings. He was a lifetime resident of Cloquet, graduating from Cloquet High School in 1933. He had been employed by the former Wood Conversion Company from 1936 until his retirement in 1978. Lyle was a person of many interests. He traveled world wide, visiting five continents, on ocean freighters following his retirement. He became a very knowledgeable organic gardener who generously shared his crops, and he enjoyed picking wild blueberries in the summer. Lyle was an avid reader during his lifetime and was a tireless letter writer, sharing many of his innovative ideas with national manufacturers. He made frequent award-winning suggestions during his employment years. In his last years, he made and sold cribbage boards as a hobby. His designs and workmanship were well known in the area. Lyle is survived by his three children; Peggy (Albert) Snyder of Maumee, Ohio, David (Cay) Hilton of Bryson City, NC and Gerald (Yvonne) Hilton of Two Harbors; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Cloquet Public Library c/o Northland Funeral Home. The family received friends Friday, July 19, 2002 from 6 - 8 P.M. in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
