Obituary of Joan Marie Juntunen

Joan Marie Juntunen, 40, of Esko died Wednesday, January 1, 2003. She was born August 29, 1962 in Cleveland, Ohio to Marvin and Marilyn (Freeser) Longfield. She moved to Minneapolis as a young child. Joan graduated from South High School in Minneapolis in 1980. She worked as a day care provider for many years. In 1989 she moved to Esko where she continued to do day care for seven years. Joan then worked for United Health Care and Central Kitchen in Duluth before going to work at Diamond Match in Cloquet in 2000. She married Darryl Juntunen on February 14, 2000 in Carlton. She was a member of Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko where she had been a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, camping and she loved kids. Joan was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Longfield. She is survived by her husband, Darryl of Esko; son, Brian Torkelson of Esko; daughters, Angela (Justin Fegers) Schroeder of Minnetonka and Barbara Torkelson of Esko; step daughter, Cassie Juntunen of Cloquet; her parents, Marvin Longfield of Wyoming, Minn. and Marilyn McPhee of Branson, Missouri; brothers, Michael (Kathleen) Longfield of Blaine, James (Mary Vinje) Longfield of Chaska; sister, Mary (Allen) Moore of Brooklyn Park; mother and father-in-law, Wally and Donna Juntunen of Esko; brother-in-law, Steve Juntunen of Esko; sisters-in-law, Karen (Jerry) Knaus of Duluth and Cynthia (Jeff) Hedlund of Esko and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 11, 2003 in Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Joan's children in care of Apostolic Lutheran Church, 25 Church Rd., Esko, 55733. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
