Obituary of Irja Aurora Hautaluoma

Irja Aurora Hautaluoma, 92, formerly of Esko, died Saturday, January 11, 2003 in Villa Vista Nursing Home, Cromwell, where she had been a resident for four years. She was born September 23, 1910 in Orr, MN to Henry and Hannah (Kilpela) Nikkinen. Irja was a 1928 graduate of Gilbert High School and a 1932 graduate of Duluth State Teachers College with training as an art teacher. She married Toivo Jack Hautaluoma on October 2, 1932 in Chatham, MI. Irja had lived in Ishpeming, MI, Crosby, Deer River, Floodwood and Esko. She enjoyed art, knitting and traveling. Irja was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; a son, Melvin in 1964; a daughter, Sylvia Johnson in 1977; a grandson, Michael Johnson; two sisters and one brother. She is survived by her son, Jack (Betty) Hautaluoma of Fort Collins, CO and seven grandchildren, Jodi Hautaluoma of San Diego, Grey Hautaluoma of Washington, D.C., Scott, Rod, Patrick and Lori Johnson and Susan Olson, all of Minneapolis. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet followed by a luncheon in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet.
