Obituary of Vivian Janette Osvold

Vivian Janette Osvold, 77, Cloquet, died Wednesday, December 4, 2002 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. She was born October 17, 1925 at home in Minneapolis to William and Ida (Hill) Nelson. As a young child, she moved with her family to Pequot Lakes. She was a 1944 graduate of Pequot Lakes High School. Vivian married Lester P. Osvold on June 28, 1946 in Pequot Lakes. Following their marriage, they made their home in Cloquet. Vivian gave generously of herself to her family and others. She was a leader of the Pine River 4-H Club for 25 years, a volunteer of the Cloquet Memorial Hospital Gift Shop, a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary, a member of the Association Free Lutheran Women's Missionary Federation and a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilt making and knitting and gave away scores of quilts, mittens, slippers and caps to local charities, friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Corlyn Nelson and a sister, Dorothy Jahn. Vivian is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lester; sons, Terrance (Mary) Osvold of Cloquet; Rev. James (Barbara) Osvold of Moorhead; Mark (Delores) Osvold of Cloquet and Robin (Karrie) Osvold of Cloquet; her brother, James (Virginia) Nelson of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Shirley (Sherman) Schmidt of Pequot Lakes; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation will be Sunday, December 8, 2002 from 3 - 5 p.m. in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Visitation will continue Monday, December 9, 2002 from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1705 Wilson Avenue, Cloquet.
